Sleeping Through A Miracle
This is what I opened my eyes to this morning in Santa Fe. Actually, we get a spectacular sunrise about five days a week. Steve and I make a point to wake up every morning to watch it. Trust me— this is a miracle you don’t want to sleep through.
As some of us sleep walk through our waking days—discouraged, anxious, sometimes even bitter or angry—we miss the fact that God has another miracle in the works. It’s easy to do because we’re oblivious to all of the instruments God is tuning and conducting on our behalf. Like my sunrise, we can’t see all the feats of science and circumstance that God uses to paint the sky these incredible colors day after day.
During the nearly four years that our son was missing, I gave Scott back to God and prayed for God’s sovereign will to be filled with this painful circumstance and our collective lives. Because of this prayer, I was as prepared as a mother could be to learn that her child had died from an overdose. But what I couldn’t see or possibly know during that drought of resolution was that God was working an unimaginable plan for all of us, and that while I waited and prayed (sometimes feeling completely hopeless and lost) he was hard at work, performing the greatest miracle of our lives.
There is a statement of fact written in Ephesians 3:20 that I think many of us overlook when we’re living through a challenge or crisis. It says this: “Now all glory to God who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. “ I love this scripture because it reminds us that we lack even the imagination to envision the solution he is working! And, so often we completely underestimate him and his mighty power.
While you’re waiting for your own miracle to emerge, I am praying that you will open your sleepy eyes to the horizon of hope and the fact that he is working hard on your behalf.
Wake up! It’s time to start looking for your sunrise.
